Empowering Local Voices
Indigenous communities nation-wide have been connected by an overwhelming sense of powerlessness over our own lives. And so, we came together to produce a framework for change called Empowered Communities.

The Framework
Australian Governments on both ends of the political spectrum have supported the empowered communities’ framework which insists that change must happen at the local and regional level, and structural change must occur where local people are driving decisions.
It steps out ‘how’ starting with governance, and how decisions are made.

The National Picture
For 6 years now, regional leaders in every state and territory of Australia, except Tasmania have been helping communities organise their voices...

The Voice Referendum
This is an historic year. The Australian people will decide on recognition of Indigenous people in our Constitution at the 2023 Voice referendum...
Empowered Communities in Cape York
Cape York partnership believes economic engagement is central to individual and social wellbeing. To that end, we partner with governments, corporate and philanthropists to encourage the emergence of a prosperous yet distinctly Indigenous people, whose children can orbit between communities and the Australian and global world and enjoy the best of both.
The vision for Empowered Communities in our region is to firmly establish and fully operationalise the empowerment, development and productivity agendas under the EC framework, in Cape York with six leading/catalyst reform communities, while at the same time managing the transition from Cape York Welfare Reform in relevant communities.
